Housing
Everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to live.
Increasing Access to Affordable Housing
ACTION:
Establish minimum lot sizes for new residential subdivisions.
Georgia’s housing shortage has made homeownership harder, and rents higher than ever.
At the root of the shortage is the state’s restrictive zoning laws. Too often local zoning codes and lot size requirements determine the size of the homes that builders can build—and the larger the lot size, the larger and more expensive the home.
Our campaign supports the establishment of state-wide minimum lot size requirements so builders can build smaller, more affordable homes. This will increase the total number of homes per acre, which will down average rent prices and give thousands of Georgia families a chance at homeownership.
Housing the Homeless
ACTION:
Launch a “Race to Zero” initiative to end Georgia homelessness within five years.
More than 12,000 Georgians — including hundreds of unaccompanied youths — experience homelessness each year. If we are to address this problem, we must adopt a housing first approach that prioritizes offering shelter to those who need it. I look forward to working with other members of the Georgia State Senate to build a program that aims to end Georgia homelessness within five years.
